This is a painting Philip Koch made while serving as the Artist in Residence for the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY. East Aurora was a place the artist Charles Burchfield chose for many of his visionary landscape watercolors. This small oil was painted on location and served as a preparatory study for a 36 x 54 inch oil made in the studio. Both paintings were exhibited in Burchfield Penney Art Center's 2018 solo exhibition of the work Koch made during his Residency.
