Olaf Otto Becker | Broken Line Photographs from adventurous journeys in a rubber raft across the icy seas of Greenland. Publisher: Hatje Cantz, 2007 Edition: 1st Edition, Signed Clothbound | 11 x 1 x 13.5 inches | 28.00 x 34.50 cm Language: English ISBN 978-3-7757-1972-8 DESCRIPTION: From the publisher: "Taken in the clear light of the midnight sun, and therefore almost shadowless, these photographs offer breathtaking views of an untouched landscape from a remote part of our planet. Olaf Otto Becker (*1959 in Travemünde) brings us images of overwhelming beauty, the result of his adventurous journeys in a rubber raft across the icy seas of Greenland. Like Under the Nordic Light, his series from Iceland, the photographs possess a certain melancholy and stillness reminiscent of the grandeur of Romantic landscape painting. At the same time, the outlook of an unperturbed explorer and his recording of exact location when photographing turns them into testimonies to a time when an increasingly warm climate is precipitating the disappearance of the glaciers. In this way, the images record the artist’s awe at the beauty of creation—as well as the dangers facing it." Ed Panar | Golden Palms Publisher: J&L Books, 2007 Edition: 1st Edition, Signed Hardcover | 10 x 8 inches Language: English ISBN 978-0-9746908-6-5 DESCRIPTION: From the publisher: "When Ed Panar moved to Los Angeles, he opted not to get a car. Or a high-end camera. For two years. His compact was, "quick, cheap and direct, and that seemed to suit L.A." The color photographs collected in Golden Palms reflect Panar's walking life there, with the cumulative effect of a subtly funny tour through the city's lost back streets--parts of contemporary Los Angeles that most people would simply speed past in their cars. His subjects, including "The 405," "Near Ventura Boulevard," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Summer" and "Coming Home," were often, he says, "like cartoon characters I'd find while I was walking around, like the rain spout attached to the wall, in a city where it doesn't rain." And like that rain spout, many of the images capture especially peculiar intersections of nature and architecture, like a set of gnarled, claw like tree roots gripping the sidewalk, a squirrel ignoring a trash can next to his tree, or palm trees photographed against stucco walls, looking like Dr. Seussian vegetation straight out of The Lorax. With an interview by the esteemed photo historian and curator, Charlotte Cotton." With this publication, Soth asked Geoff Dyer and Pico Iyer, writers and fellow table tennis enthusiasts, to respond to these pictures by engaging in a kind of literary ping-pong match." Robynne Limoges | Sotto Voce Publisher: Self Published, 2010 Edition: 1st Edition, Signed Hardcover with dust jacket | 30 x 30 cm Language: English Sotto Voce is a visual meditation on the age-old questions of how much light is required to dispel darkness and just how is it to be found - this radiance - when surrounded by so much darkness? I like these questions in all their forms and implications. There is, perhaps, a quality of waiting in these images: for the story to begin, for the exchange of memory, or memory once removed. Stories told in voices so low that the teller and the told must lean forward, quieten down, listen carefully. These are images that began as scenes of the ordinary. I found within them a deep mysteriousness, and I sought to exhume from each one, its deep radiance and integrity of emotion. The 82 images in the book were discovered in many different locations around the world. They share a conceptual framework and structural style. Part of what they express is my particular reverence for the quiet visual voice and the unresolved narrative. The majority of images originate from negatives made using Kodak HIE Infrared Film, a film that was discontinued several years ago. The book is 158 pages, hardcover with dust jacket, 30x30 cm, published in 2010. There are two immaculate signed copies available.
